The origin of the varied and rich gastronomy of the Axarquia is based on the Muslim culture.The ingredients of most of the dishes are cultivated in the area such as olive oil and wine. There are five recommended tours and four of them refer to the local products. The Sun and Avocado tour, The Sun and Wine tour, The Raisins tour and the Oil and Mountains tour. Popular celebrations are organised to sample-taste the typical local dishes like the breadcrumbs in Torrox, the white garlic soup in Almáchar or the wine night in Competa.There are two different zones. The interior where we can taste products like rabbit or hare stew and kid-goat and the coast where the main ingredient is fresh fish (Sardines on wooden sticks). Of all dishes we emphasize the white garlic soup, the tomato soup, Maimones soup, the gazpacho and gaspachuelo and fennel soup.Pastries as the flat cake from Algarrobos, orthe pestiños (cinnamon cookies)
