
Antequera is located in the north of Malaga. It limit to the north with Cordoba, to the east with Granada, west Guadalteba and to the south with Valle del Guadalhorce and Malaga. The river crossing this land is called Guadalhorce and the area is called Vega de Antequera or Los Llanos and it is located in the Cordillera Subbetica, to the north, and the Cordillera Penibetica, to the south. By its geographical situation, in the geographical center of Andalucia, is the main junction of terrestrial communications. Has approx. 115.000 habitants, the capital city is Antequera and further to the Junta de Andalucia, the Comarca de Antequera cope the following villages around the la Vega de Antequera.
The gastronomy is based on the quality of it´s oil, variety and development of natural products of the earth, the poultry and game. In between all the dishes, the most characteristic feature is the famous "baton" and its derivatives. It also highlights thick gazpacho, porra, the Gacha of musts, ajoblanco, the gazpachuelo, crumbs or Papuecas stuffed with cod or covered with honey. There are also the usual hunting dishes, like the rabbit a la cortijera and goat, pork loin or paco and the recipes for fish in vinegar, a way of preserving foods typical of Antequera. Very special are their pastries that are performed in the cloistered monasteries and traditional ovens as would be their alfajores, angelorum, bienmesabe, figs with walnuts, polvorones and mantecados, pastries of glory, pestiños etc.
Part of the Antequera region is a crossroad between the two Andalusias, the eastern and western and you will be able to enjoy abundant monuments both built by men as by the force of nature.* Monumental route and archaeological sites. We have innumerable archaeological remains from all periods, all of them are the most important megalithic complex of Europe of the dolmens of Antequera (Cave of Menga, El Romeral and La Vileta,), Roman (Roman Villa and Baths of Antequera or Roman baths of Alameda), as well as churches (of all periods), convents, springs (the spring of a hundred Caños in Villanueva del Trabuco) and strengths of different eras and styles. * Landscape Route. Within the region we will be able to realize a endless hiking routes both on foot, on horseback or mountain bike, in addition to Delta flying, climbing and abseiling. * Fiestas: in the municipalities of the region we can enjoy common festivals that are held as are the Fiestas Patronales, Fiesta de la Candelaria on February 2 (Alameda), pilgrimages of San Isidro Labrador and San Antonio, Holy Week (Antequera) or livestock fairs (Villanueva del Trabuco for example) among others.
