The Malaga area is formed by 8 municipal towns (Alhaurin de la Torre and el Grande, Pizarra, Ardales, Coin, Valle de Abdalajis, Alora and Almogia), It is a natural region crossed by the Guadalhorce river. Although the Junta de Andalucia changed this limits the 14th of March 2003. It is located next to the capital city and to the Costa del Sol, to the Parque Natural de la Sierra de las Nieves and the Montes de Malaga. Coin is considered the capital of this region, mostly because of its historical area and actually it is an urbanistic expantion area of the metropolitan city of Málaga. It has an approximated population of 118.000 inhabitants.

The gastronomy of this area is given by the Vega del Guadalhorce and joined by its historic custom and traditions. Among all its typical dishes the most common are "sopa Perota" de Alora, sopa hervida, sopa de Ajo, las gachas, las sopas cachorre?as, sopa de Casta?a (Alhaurin de la Torre), el gazpacho, la olla, las migas, mojete, las porras (Valle de Abdalajis) y la ensalada de bacalao. There are products form the pigs and the lamb and the caldereta de cabrito: morcillas, chorizos, cuajadas . It is well known its famous deserts from Ardales and the Alhaurinos where products are alaborated in an artesanal way as galletas de almendras, los roscos de vino, las empanadillas con cabello de angel, las polcas, bollos de aceite, bu?uelos, mostachones, roscos de de huevo, roscos fritos, etc.

It´s geographical situation and it´s terrain made it a place of settlements from remote times where prehistoric, Phoenician, Roman, Iberian, Greek, Arab, Jewish and Christian cultures melt and where the current customs and traditions come from. Cultures that left a clear mark on the traditional architecture of the area, also reflect the close relationship of man with the water and the earth through buildings such as the windmills (Alhaurin el Grande), the ditches or the cascareros (Slate). Of it´s monuments we can highlight for example the prehistoric footprints of the Caves of Ardales or of Valle de Abdalajis, traces of the Phoenician city in Churriana (Malaga), castles in slate or Álora, Almenara Tower in the center of Alhaurin el Grande, the Church of San Sebastian in Alhaurin de la Torre or, the Cortijo in bells or Churriana and the Museums of Bachelor and cistern in Álora or the Municipal Museum of slate. The topography and climate have made it possible to enjoy a rich Vega and singular spots between vegetable gardens, fruit trees and mediterranean forest sprinkled between the cores of population and areas of high ecological value as the natural landscape of the reservoirs de Chorro, Paraje Natural Desfiladero de los Gaitanes or Paraje Natural of the mouth of the River Guadalhorce. Thanks to all that, we can enjoy a multitude of paths on foot, on horseback or by bicycle. Also a wide range of sporting activities such as climbing, paragliding (Valle de Abdalajis), tirolinea, piraguismos, caving, etc.
